Did you know the city of Haverhill has not just one, but two ice rinks? How lucky are we?
I grew up 45 minutes away from the nearest ice rink. My parents weren’t into winter sports so it didn’t cross our minds to go ice skating as a family. However, I loved watching women’s figure skating on tv. I imagine having a local ice rink in town would have sparked some Olympic dreams… ok, maybe not. I certainly would have been better at ice skating if it was easily accessible and affordable, like it is in Haverhill Massachusetts!
Come take a look inside this Haverhill ice rink: The Veterans Memorial Skating Rink. Meet Jill Pigniatello, owner of The Ice Skating Academy. Learn how she started the academy and how she why she continues to serve the community in Haverhill, Massachusetts.

The Ice Skating Academy in Haverhill
I came upon The Ice Skating Academy when I met one of the instructors, Kendra. At the time, she was teaching gymnastics to my then 1-year old daughter. Kendra said to me, “If you can find skates that’ll fit her, I’ll teach her!” I love her enthusiasm for teaching. Everyone at The Ice Skating Academy is passionate about what they do.
Here’s an old photo of my daughter Keira (pink coat) with Kendra (middle) and other students at The Ice Skating Academy. Yes, adults enjoy lessons, too!

Haverhill Ice Rink: Veterans Memorial Skating Rink
They continue to base their lessons out of the Veterans Memorial Skating Rink. Located behind the Haverhill high school, this Haverhill ice rink was built in 1972 and continues to provide local residents with a skating facility at affordable prices.
The admission cost of a 2-hour public skating session? $3 for adults and $1 for kids age 12 and under. No skates? No problem. Skate rentals are available for $4.
Just be sure to call the rink ahead of times because they’re not open year-round. I’ll include the business information at the end of this post.
Haverhill Ice Rink: Valley Forum
The other ice rink in Haverhill is the Valley Forum located in the Ward Hill area. It features two state-of-the-art ice surfaces and sports training center. Photos to come. Unlike the Veterans Memorial Rink, the Valley Forum rink is open year-round.
A Haverhill Gem
The Haverhill ice rinks are a great resource for the town, and a great way to bring the community together. Next time you’re looking for something fun to do, consider giving ice skating a try!
