If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to spend time with the family, consider the Haverhill ice rink. Did you know the city of Haverhill has not just one, but two ice rinks? How lucky are we?
Veterans Memorial Skating Rink
This is my favorite Haverhill ice rink to take the kids ice skating. Why? Because for $1, kids can skate for 2 hours during the public skate hours. Adults are $3. It’s hard to beat that! Skate rentals are also very reasonably priced. Skate rentals are available for $4. This Haverhill ice rink is located behind the Haverhill high school, and continues to service the local community since it was built in 1972.
Just be sure to call the rink ahead of time because they’re not open year-round. The hours are limited so you’ll want to check the rink website because the hours change throughout the season depending on the school hockey team schedule.

The Ice Skating Academy
Want to improve your ice skating skills? Meet Jill Pigniatello, owner of The Ice Skating Academy. She and her staff teach lessons for kids and adults at Veterans Memorial Rink. The video above explains how she started the academy and why she continues to serve the community by teaching at the Haverhill ice rink.
I stumbled upon The Ice Skating Academy when I met one of the instructors, Kendra. At the time, Kendra was teaching gymnastics to my then 1-year old daughter. Kendra said to me, “If you can find skates that’ll fit her, I’ll teach her!” I love her enthusiasm for teaching. Everyone at The Ice Skating Academy is passionate about what they do.

Valley Forum
Another Haverhill ice rink is the Valley Forum located in the Ward Hill area. It features two state-of-the-art ice surfaces and sports training center. Unlike the Veterans Memorial Rink, the Valley Forum rink is open year-round. There is a limit of 30 skaters on the ice so advance reservations are required. Rental skates are not available at this Haverhill ice rink.

Haverhill Ice Rinks - A Haverhill Gem
I grew up 45 minutes away from the nearest ice rink. My parents weren’t into winter sports so it didn’t cross our minds to go ice skating as a family. However, I loved watching women’s figure skating on tv. I certainly would have been better at ice skating if it was easily accessible and affordable, like it is in Haverhill Massachusetts! The Haverhill ice rinks are a great resource for the town, and a great way to bring the community together. Next time you’re looking for something fun to do, consider giving ice skating a try!
