It’s true: fall is finally among us. The brisk air and the vibrant foliage make this the perfect time to be a New Englander. It’s important to soak up these last few weeks before it gets too chilly…and with an abundance of local farms and fall festivities, you won’t be short of things to do! I wanted to highlight a very special New England location: Cider Hill Farm. This Amesbury farm promises fall fun for the whole family. Grab your favorite sweater and a good pair of boots (and your mask) and join me for an in-depth look at one of New England’s most beloved farms!
The farm was started by locals Eleanor and Ed Cook in 1978 upon their purchase of the Battis Farm (and later the Vedrani Farm) which make up the Cider Hill locals adore today. Their son, Glenn Cook, now runs the farm alongside his wife…meaning the farm is a family legacy maintained by three generations of Cooks. The farm in its entirety (all 145 acres) is cared for by a driven team of farmers who pride themselves on their old-fashioned work ethic. The farm and its team are truly dedicated to the highest quality products, as the farm is entirely non-GMO.
There’s a lot that makes Cider Hill Farm Amesbury a local favorite…especially the seasonal apple picking! Grab your tickets online (https://www.ciderhill.com/pick-your-own) and head down to the farm in Amesbury. While there, you and yours can help yourself to the abundance of apples, including Kidd’s Gala, McIntosh, Cortland, Buckeye Gala, Ruby Mac, Linda Mac, and more! Nothing compares to a crisp apple fresh off the tree, and the aromatic walk isn’t too bad, either!
And that’s not all…despite the virus, Cider Hill has dedicated itself to safe fun for people of all ages. The farm holds gleaning activities for kids and hard cider nights for adults with live music. Check their website for weekly event updates!
There’s also a tricycle and sandbox play area for the little ones (and you can feed the chickens!) My daughter loved watching how the apple cider donuts get made onsite. The little one also enjoyed the horse-like swings!
When you’ve finished your apple-picking, stop by the PitchFork to fuel up. The farm’s custom food truck dishes out hearty treats and drinks that are sure to end your outing on a high note. Try the fresh squeezed cider!
And before you leave, the farm store is a must-see…with a bakery filled with delicious fresh-baked treats, local produce/meat, handmade jams, local honey, and more, you won’t want to miss it!
The farm recommends you purchase “Pick Your Own” tickets in advance, so be sure to click the link above! Cider Hill is an Amesbury farm fall favorite you definitely won’t want to miss out on…trust me, I’m local!
